Call For New Board Members
2006-2008 TermAnnouncement/Call:
LeadershipCares is a Washington D.C. area based non-profit, operating since 1998 committed to building a worldwide network of care, one leader at a time. We teach teenagers and young adults the leadership and life skills vital to their success and we encourage the use of these skills in service to others through our three outreach programs in mentoring, literacy tutoring and hunger relief.Our mission is to provide leadership training to fortify today’s youth with marketable skills to take into the workplace and provide a training ground that nurtures their self-confidence, personal responsibility and celebrates the value of their service to others.
As LeadershipCares begins the next phase of growth our major goal is to select and develop a Board of Directors that can help take this vision to the next level.
We are seeking to fill LeadershipCares Board positions for service that begins in May 2006. If you want to make a difference in the life of a young person or know of others that are passionate about our areas of outreach we want to hear from you.
Fast Facts:
Expectations of LeadershipCares Volunteer Board Members:- Actively serve a required 2 year term (Terms begin in May)
- Secure agreed upon contributions and/or in-kind services to support programs.
- Actively chair and operate one of seven Board committees.
- Be an Adult Coach to a MentorCares student (Commitment of 2 hours per month)
- Attend the two annual Board meetings held in spring and late fall each year.
- Organize and host one MentorCares Student/Industry Networking Event.
- Attend and participate in 3 of the 6 official annual events.
What You Will Gain from Your Board Experience:

- Meet, network and work with committed professionals from a variety of backgrounds.
- Be an active outreach volunteer in youth mentoring, literary training and hunger relief.
- Attend special community events raising awareness of youth, literacy and hunger issues.
- Use your unique skills to have a direct and lasting impact on your community.
- Learn coaching and mentoring skills that can be utilized and taught in your work place.
Process for Applying:
- Submit a brief resume with a cover letter explaining why you would be interested in joining and participating as a LeadershipCares volunteer Board member.
