THE LEADERSHIPCARES GOLF CLASSIC RAISES FUNDS TO DEVELOP CARING TEEN LEADERS AND TO SUPPORT OUTREACH PROGRAMS IN MENTORING, LITERACY TRAINING AND HUNGER RELIEF

Gaithersburg MD August 1, 2005. The annual LeadershipCares Golf Classic was held at Old South Country Club in Lothian Maryland on August 1st 2005. The event was held to support leadership training programs for local teenagers and to operate the LeadershipCares outreach programs in mentoring, hunger relief and literacy tutoring.

Each participant received a golfer goodie bag containing an official LeadershipCares golf shirt, golf towel, golf balls, coupons for free appetizers from Glory Days Grill and a variety of other “take home” items. Teams representing local and national organizations played 18 holes and then enjoyed a networking buffet luncheon. Some of the organizations that were represented at this year’s event included Microsoft Inc., Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington, Palmetto Group, Honeywell Inc., Timmons and Company, American Trucking Association, SAP Inc., Ernst & Young, American Bankers Association, American Hospital Association, Talk of the Town Events, and the D.C. Area Literacy Councils. Prizes and sponsorships were provided by Microsoft Inc., Great American Restaurants, Smith and Wollenskys, Zola’s, Red Sage, Glory Days Grill, D.C. Chop House and Brewery, and Maryland Turf Caterers.

Lula Davis, Executive Director of LeadershipCares let participants know that because of their participation the organization would be able to feed over 700 families as part of the 2005 ThanksgivingCares™ program, operate the MentorCares™ program for the upcoming school year and increase its’ LiteracyCares™ outreach. She also recognized the volunteers who assisted in the planning and execution of the event.
