This program promotes volunteer opportunities and activities in the area of literacy tutoring and training. There are two annual events that MentorCares students have an opportunity to particpate in.

Announcment 2008 LiteracyCares™ Awards Dinner.

Annual LiteracyCares Award of Excellence Gala-This program works to recognize the exceptional contribution of literacy volunteers by presenting a special event in their honor andpresenting an annual award to recognize their work. Our young MentorCares participants learn how to run an awards program, plan, market and execute a special event and actually run the gala. Participants act as committee chairs, master of ceremonies, honoree escorts all as a way of practicing and mastering their learned leadership and life skills. The annual award is presented to the literacy volunteers that have shown exceptional effort in the area of literacy tutoring and training.

Annual LiteracyCares Director’s and Youth Conference-This program is an annual conference which is attended by Literacy Council Directors and their key staff members along with MentorCares students. The problems of illiteracy are discussed in depth and students have an opportunity to become directly involved in issues related to raising awareness, discuss solutions and identify how they can get directly involved. MentorCares students also have an opportunity to interact with leaders that are making a difference in this issue.
