LeadershipCares is a non-profit organization committed to building a worldwide network of care, by developing one young leader at a time. We teach teenagers and young adults the leadership and life skills vital to their success and we encourage the use of these skills in service to others through our outreach programs in youth-to-youth mentoring, literacy training and hunger relief.
Our Programs
We accomplish our mission through the three LeadershipCares outreach initiatives.
What We've Experienced
Imagine walking into a room and seeing young people working enthusiastically and collaboratively to move closer toward reaching their fullest potential. Imagine that caring adult
volunteers give freely of their time and talents to actively guide and support these youngpeople as they shape their own future. Think for a moment that while these young people live in challenging urban environments that could impede their future aspirations and chances forpersonal growth and development, they are vigorously seeking skills and strategies that will inevitably impact their lives inpositive ways. LeadershipCares has developed a comprehensive program that makes this vision a reality, and it dovetails nicely with the qualities high school administrators hope to instill in their students—academic and career preparedness, the desire for lifelong learning, the ability to stay the course in the midst of adversity, emotional maturity, integrity, social responsibility, respect for differences, and community involvement.
LeadershipCares offers an added dimension to what high schools are currently doing and will further support the students' academic performance, social and emotional development, and life and leadership skill acquisition. Active involvement in the LeadershipCares program enables students to leave high school with sound academic skills, a sense of how to set and achieve their personal and career goals, a greater world view that ex
tends beyond their communities, and skills and strategies for addressing issues and solving problems proactively. With the help of parents, teachers, college students, business leaders, and community representatives LeadershipCares works to promote global awareness and local action among youth in high schools across America, with the hope that they will be empowered to make a difference in the world through their commitment, involvement and "hands on" local action.
What We're Trying to Accomplish
LeadershipCares is dedicated to developing caring leaders throughout the United States that will become productive members of society and will be able to fulfill their life goals. The experiences of the caring adult volunteers and their interaction with the participants are essential in helping students prepare themselves for leadership opportunities that may arise in any facet of their lives. LeadershipCares fulfills its mission through the active involvement and engagement of all stakeholders working together on the three LeadershipCares initiatives—MentorCares™, LiteracyCares™, and ThanksgivingCares™—that provide a seamless link to the programs already in place in the high schools where we operate. All stakeholders are committed to assisting the student participants to—
- Understand and value racial, cultural, economic, and religious differences.
- Develop a global awareness of societal issues and initiate local action plans designed to address those issues as a group.
- Appreciate that individuals can make a difference through leadership opportunities in schools and service in their communities.
- Learn to use critical leadership and life skills for classroom and workplace success.
- Develop a positive philosophy of life that will enable them to develop their potential and contribute productively to society.
