LeadershipCares is made up of caring adult volunteers,
high school students, active Board members and business and community
partners. Coordinators, trainers, speakers, youth and adult mentors are all
volunteers who participate in our three outreach programs.
Those that become involved with LeadershipCares believe in the potential
of all young people and they fully appreciate the power of reaching out
to positively effect one young person at a time. Whether their passion is mentoring,
fighting illiteracy, or overcoming hunger our volunteers all have one
thing in common---they understand the importance of developing the next generation
of leaders that will face these problems and others in their community
and in the world at large.
LeadershipCares believes that
everyone has a special gift that they can use to help others. We always have
room at our table to include passionate individuals and corporations that
understand the value of developing the next generation of caring leaders.

Brief
History of LeadershipCares
The LeadershipCares Foundation Inc. was founded in 1998 by a small core of adult volunteers that believed in the potential of all young people. We started out by involving small groups of young people in community projects to teach them the value of service to others. By being involved in a "hands on" fashion these young participants learned various skills that they discovered could be used in their classroom and also in their workplace. They learned that every person can make a genuine difference in the lives of others.
Examples of our work: We grew from hosting a small literacy awards event for forty guests in 2000 to hosting a gala event in 2005. In 1998 our small group delivered food to 16 families at Thanksgiving. In 2006 we were able to serve over 800 families.
In 2003 our youth-to-youth mentoring program was introduced at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. The program and it’s community outreach work has grown steadily ever since. Graduates of our program attend colleges throughout the United States and Canada and actively participate as MentorCares alumni. These young caring leaders are spreading their own wings and making a difference outside of the local area.
